NBI General Adult
This instrument measures thinking preferences, which are how individuals naturally prefer to process information and make decisions. Gaining insight into our thinking preferences makes us more aware of and sensitive to the preferences of others.
Developing better relationships, making more dynamic contributions in the team, and making sound and relevant decisions are but a few of the advantages of understanding your own thinking profile. For instance, understanding that a team member has a preference for detailed planning can help you assign tasks that align with their strengths, leading to more effective teamwork. Making more accurate job and career choices or determining the correct subject or study selections could eventually lead to a more productive and fulfilled personal and professional life.
Because the focus of this NBI® profile is on thinking preferences, the end result is neither good nor bad. The NBI® provides a profile of thinking preference, which is a descriptive, objective analysis of the individual’s thinking choices, with no profile being better or worse than another.
The NBI® profile, focusing on thinking preferences, is not about being good or bad. It’s about providing an objective analysis of your thinking choices. No profile is better or worse than another, it’s simply a reflection of your unique thinking style.
Why do we need two types of NBI® – one to focus on thinking preferences and the other to assess skills?
Understanding your thinking preferences can also highlight areas for growth. For instance, you might have a strong preference for order, planning, and organisation, but lack the skills to implement them. This awareness can guide you in developing these skills, leading to personal and professional growth.
On the other hand, it is possible that a person could have excellent skills to be a banker, but have a very low preference for the processes associated with the job. This, of course, could lead to a lot of frustration! The individual would therefore not be able to sustain the passion and energy to stay happy and productive in the banking environment.
A person’s brain is divided into four different thinking quadrants:
L1 – Analytical and factual
L2 – Organised and detailed
R2 – Interpersonal and sensitive
R1 – Strategic and unorthodox
Each of the four quadrants is further divided into two to give 8 distinct dimensions to a person’s thinking preference.
The Brain Profile gives an indication of how:
- You act towards other people
- You do business
- You communicate
- You learn
- You teach
- You solve problems
- You form relationships
- You play sports etc.

NBI Skills
This Instrument is a powerful tool for identifying an individual’s skills. It’s possible that you’ve acquired skills in a particular area that don’t align with your brain preference, or that you have a strong preference in one area but haven’t had the chance to develop the necessary skills. This underscores the importance of self-awareness in personal development, empowering you to take control of your growth.
It’s important to note that your skills profile could differ from your preference profile. The most common reason for this happening is that preferring (“liking”) something does not automatically mean you have the skills to execute or implement the preference. You may like singing, but do not have any singing skills.
The opposite is also sometimes true. A person may have excellent skills for accounting but has little or no preference for doing the work of an accountant. It’s important to note that if the correlation between the preference profile and skills profile is low, it would be very difficult to sustain passion and energy.

NBI Spirituality Style
The NBI Faith Thinking Style profile is a descriptive, non-judgmental assessment with no profile being superior to the other. The profile report gives the specific quadrant scores and makes recommendations based on these scores.
It could happen that a person’s spirituality profile differs form his/her preference profile. The most common reason is that a person can move into different quadrants when thinking about his/her faith. Please note this instrument is currently only available in Afrikaans. The English translation will follow soon.

NBI Creativity Style
Your Creativity Profile will give you insight into “how you are creative”. Every human being is born with creativity at a superior level, but unfortunately, the majority of us lose some of our creativity because of conditioning processes.
This Instrument identifies the type of creativity you use and apply. Because the focus is on thinking preferences the end result is neither good nor bad. The NBI® Creativity Style Profile is a descriptive and objective analysis of the individual’s thinking choices, with no profile being better or worse than another. - Enable you to create an ideal environment for your child.
- Apply whole-brain creativity.

NBI Personal Negativity
The NBI® Personal Negativity Instrument will give you a greater insight into your negative thinking. It identifies the processes most likely to cause your negativity, which can block your happiness and success.
Your standard Adult Profile (measuring your thinking preferences) and Personal Negativity Profile will not look the same. In fact, you will often have a high negativity score in a quadrant where you have low brain preferences. For example, you may have low brain preferences for detail, organisation and structure (the L2 quadrant). When working in an environment where these processes receive strong emphasis, you may experience high negativity towards these processes and therefore have a high negativity score in this quadrant.

NBI Desired Job
By completing the 15 questions you clearly indicated the kind of JOB you would like to have one day. The total score of every participant is 300 which means that there is no profile that is superior or better than the other. The different Job profiles do however show which skills, insights, thinking, and attitudes are required to do well in particular jobs.
The profile report focuses on the specific quadrant scores and makes recommendations based on these scores. It is also recommended that you compare your personal profile (four and eight dimensions) to your desired job profile – the higher the correlation between these two profiles the better the possibility that your desired job is the correct choice.

The Neethling Brain Instruments measure thinking preferences and it is therefore of the utmost importance that the advisor takes careful note of the client’s thinking profile so as to uniquely meet the needs of a particular client. The client’s thinking preferences will determine the WHAT, HOW, WHO, and WHY of: communication, decision-making, relationship-building, and future creation.

NBI Whole Brain Feedback
Your Whole Brain profile will give you an insight into the type of manager that you prefer and how that impacts your followership style. It will highlight issues that are important to you (but maybe not to your employer or colleagues) and even where there could be room for improvement!
The Whole Brain profile assesses thinking preferences and not the skills or abilities necessary to execute these preferences. It is therefore possible that an individual could have a very strong preference for order, planning and organisation in a manager, but has never had the opportunity to develop these skills him/herself.
